Sometimes, we tend to miss out on the small things that surround us. Perhaps it’s because of their size, or the fact that they’ve become so common that we ignore them subconsciously. How many of us pay attention to the small things that surround us, from butterflies, to flowers & fire? These little things are everywhere. We blindly look at people around us because our eyes have become so used to them. How many of us stop to observe a beggar on the road, or just people around us; people talking, people on the road, people in trains, people in markets, people everywhere. Life has become so fast moving that we don’t bother anymore. On the other hand, there are people that are almost invisible to us. They come and go, that’s all, they do not ask for any attention. Have you ever wondered how the streets are so clean every morning? Who makes flower garlands that you find at your cousin’s wedding? No. Then, it’s time to look around, because it’s the little things that matter, that add up in the end to create the bigger picture.

Greeting someone is something that we do every day – at times, consciously and at other times, subconsciously. We greet people; we welcome them. Gestures such as welcoming a newly-wed bride into her new life generate as much warmth as a child’s playful laughter. I am not saying that all that we are welcomed by is good for us. The first offer of a cigarette can be a trap for many and a seductive look can be even harder to resist. However, every tunnel has two openings; if the darkness tempts you into it, the light at the other end is just as welcoming.

The Colour Red

As a colour, red is extremely powerful. It holds utmost significance and even has a lot of hidden meaning. Because it catches the eye so easily, it is a colour that has become a part of our lives; a part of us. It is also known to be associated with an adrenaline rush, a certain kind of excitement or even the rise of one’s blood pressure. This might not happen evidently but is subtly felt by the individual. I have tried to portray just that – whether it be a woman wearing a red shirt on a beach, or the adrenaline rush that a teenager feels while doing something “wrong”, or just the colour red hidden in nature in different forms, we all get attracted to it, unconsciously or otherwise. Do take a look and tell us what you think.

A Cultural Concoction

In India, contrasting cultures can be found merging with each other on every street. Some perceive this as progress; some find this offensive and some find it simply funny. Therefore, I have decided to capture this modernization (if I may term it that), and showcase these merging cultures with a few of my photographs. What is beautiful is that it’s not the Indian culture which is being “affected” by foreign cultures since it is actually the latter which is gaining an Indian touch.

Through these photos, I hope that you can feel these contrasts and how realize India has accepted change; yet retaining its true values and traditions, its colours and its culture.
