Movie Review: No One Killed Jessica

No One Killed Jessica.

After all the hype, was it a dud? Nope, it wasn’t. Neither was it an awesome movie. The movie was good for most of it, but then some of the parts seemed a little forced; especially every time Rani Mukherjee swore or every time Vidya Balan cried. The movie didn’t respect the time and space parameters of Film Making, hence Toyota Innovas’, Mahindra Logans’ make it to the movie even though the year is 1999, another script inconsistency is that  Vidya Balan’s character Sabrina Lall states that she was 22 at the time Jessica was shot, yet the last grave scene showing Jessica was 23 years old when she met her maker, lame fact but the mere reason I caught on to it in the first viewing of the movie will surely mean others to will get this. The characters of the real world witnesses have been fictionalized to a large extent and most of the circumstances that surround them are based on real life court proceedings of witnesses turning hostile.

Coming to the film itself, as in the technique bit. It’s fantastic! Amit Trivedi’s “dillidillidilli” is played every time the movie takes a cinmeatic nose dive, and believe it or not it does pep up the audience…so as Rayit who watched it with me said; “Every time I felt sleepy….that music …buzzed me out of it” The rest of the background score is brilliant, very youth oriented with guitar riffs thrown here and there with some of the best vocal sound tracks I have heard. The cinematography is really nice, keeps you in perspective like it’s supposed to throughout the movie. As for the director, I liked Aamir more than this movie.

Now performances ;  Vidya Balan has convincingly played Sabrina Lall , atleast in most parts barring a few which seemed lame, on the other hand Rani puts up a very force portrayal of a TV Reporter, maybe it to make it same real or maybe to shock Indian audiences the word “fuck” “bastard” “sons of bitches” are thrown at the audience, even a few typical MC/BC type Hindi expletives are heard…the problem with this is , it doesn’t serve the purpose of Rani’s character being established as a raw and outgoing reporter, it’s more like these are being forced out of her. The guy who played the police officer was really convincing, his character too was very convincing. Surprisingly a lot of ex Roadies and Splitsvilla participants have minor roles in the movie. Stupid Observation?

The movie was good, but doesn’t quiet live up to the hype it had around it. I give it 6 out of 10.
