There’s something I’v been noticing regarding movies lately. It seems that the directors have picked up on a formula for success. Instead of making an actor as a protagonist, the city is depicted as the main lead. So if Milan Luthria tried it for “once upon….”,Maneesh sharma uses the same thing for band baja baraat. Delhi undoubtedly turns out to be the eccentric part of the movie which after a certain point of time turns out to be very predictable and insanely amateaur. Apart from this, the director has tried hard to outsmart other directors. So instead of using the Mustan brother theorem of lifting the story from a particular hollywood movie, maneesh sharma lifts it from a jargon of hollywood rom-coms, which needless to say turns out to be a calamity. Band Bajaa Baraat adds to the list of The Yashraj ongoing failures.

The story seems to be very much simple and understood. Meet Bitu(Ranveer) a young college going Haryanvi who not able to make both his ends meet is looking for alternatives to earn a fortune, and is scared of ending up at his family business of agriculture(or cutting sugarcanes to be specific). In contrast to him there’s Shruti who is very over ambitious and is focused to move her career in the direction of marriage business by starting a company “Shaadi Mubarak”.THATS IT!

What follows after this is nothing but a slide show of English movies like No reservation, Bringing up baby, You’ve got mail. The film does tend to hold you in the first half but lacks sense and logics in second half. There are for sure some very funny parts like Bittoo convincing the Sainik Farm Entrepreneurs by flattering them. The one-liners also do seem to be good like “speed de gyaan na de” or “Shit bhi bolti hai to FM lagta hai”. Apart from this everything is very cliché and easily predictable. The movie is shot in a very haphazard manner by using all hand held shots.

The only saving grace of the movie is the main lead duo who are thoroughly natural and realistic. The new actor Ranveer is very convincing and promising though has been religiously wasted in the second half. Anushka sharma turns out to be very genuine and fits her role. On a whole the movie is a below average but still I advise you to go watch it for the acting and the strong one liners.

The film had more to it than you have mentioned. However, I'd recommend you do a review and not go about it this way. It's a good effort, but don't give the narrative and story line away to this extent. Hoping to read more stuff in the near future.
