What is it about a movie that you look forward to the most? The romance between the lead pair or the special effects? The storyline or the perfectly timed comic dialogue? Maybe, you tend to go a step ahead of the rest and decide to concentrate more on the sets and the costumes? Whatever it is, if there is one movie which will not let you down in your quest, it has to be Thor.

After the huge success of movies like Iron ManX- Men, and the Spiderman series, Marvel brings another one of its comic book characters to life on the silver screen. This time, it’s better than all the previous ones.

The film has a pretty regular story line. Thor, the God of Thunder, is banished by his father, for inciting a war between his race of Asgards and the Frost Giants. So, he lands up on Earth and meets Jane. Meanwhile, his father falls sick and his younger brother, Loki, becomes king of the Asgards and starts harbouring evil plans. So it’s up to Thor to return to his banished land and save the Asgards from the clutches of their new king. Meanwhile, he somehow manages to fall in love with the mortal, Jane. Pretty strange for a God to fall in love with a human being, don’t you think? But then, the film is so fast-paced and intensely gripping, that these questions tend to slip your mind till the closing credits come on.

The casting for the movie couldn’t have got better. Chris Hemsworth delivers a stunning performance as Thor. Natalie Portman, playing Jane, continues from where she left off in Black Swan and delivers yet another performance she will be very proud of. Idris Elba plays the powerful Heimdall to perfection. Kat Dennings only job in the entire film was to deliver spontaneously funny dialogues, and ensure the movie had its moment of light hearted laughter. She couldn’t have done it better. But it is Tom Hiddleston, playing Loki, who manages to steal the show, amidst some very tough competition from his co-actors.

Out-of-the-world cinematography, special effects which blow your mind off, a brilliant music score which perfectly complements the movie and kickass editing makes this movie a treat to watch! A special mention for the art direction: the sets and costumes were simply brilliant! The Asgard Empire, as it was shown, must have burnt a pretty large hole into the producer’s pocket, but it was more than worth it. The 3D effects have been used very wisely, and actually involve the audience into the film to quite a large extent.

Director, Kenneth Branagh, best known for his adaptations of Shakespearean plays, ensures that the movie has the Shakespearean touch to it. He has previously been nominated a couple of times for the Oscars, and this time he might just win one (atleast), until and unless we see something pretty spectacular from other film makers.

Thor is not the sort of film which I’d want to go back and watch a second time. But I’d have to be an idiot to miss out on it!
