Emerging Face: Shriya Garg

While some might say that she’s just a child prodigy, we like to think it was Shriya Garg’s inherent love for books that caused her to write her first novel at the age of 16. Now a student studying in the 12th grade, Shriya’s book is titled Take One More Chance and is available in all major bookstores across India. Her fluid sense of writing is interlaced with enough wit and humour that will help you devour the book in a day itself.

Take One More Chance tells the story of Naina Kashyap, a 25-year old who works in an accounting firm in New Delhi. The book journeys through her life of ups and downs – downs mostly, when her father orders her to find a decent groom for herself. Naina responds in a rebellious manner until things can’t get any worse. But the drama’s not even completely unfolded yet. Get a copy of this book at the bookstore near you or you can even buy it online through Flipkart (http://www.flipkart.com/take-one-more-chance-shriya-book-8183520146). Visit http://shriyagarg.net/tomc to find everything you need to about this book.

Interestingly, Shriya also runs a website devoted solely to books which is named The Vault (http://the-vault.co.cc/). The general idea being that this is ‘your vault of books’ where you can read book reviews and get suggestions on what books you should be reading now. The design of the site gives you the feeling of a classroom and all the reviews are creatively graded with an A+, B+ and so on depending on how they’ve been written. What caught my eye was that the site not only covers book written by romance queen Julie Garwood and popular author Meg Cabot but it also includes books such as My Name Is Red by Orhan Pamuk and Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.  Therefore, it is not genre-specific and it welcomes guest authors too. Go ahead and contribute!

Also, it is pretty evident that this young author is quite caught up in preparing for her Board Exams. Here’s wishing her luck – for her exams and for her next book!
